The islands of Hawaii make for some of the most beautiful destinations not only in the Unites States, but in the world. Nestled between the islands of Oahu and Maui is the island of Moloka’i. Offering a look at what the locals call, “Old Hawaii,” the island boasts that no building is taller than a palm tree. With beaches, diving, boat tours, fishing and a host of other outdoor activities, you won’t ever have to worry about being bored. This destination allows you to do as much as you want, or nothing at all and enjoy every minute of it.

Things to Do in Molokai

  • Post-A-Nut Hoolehau Post Office –
    Travelers can choose a coconut from a bin and color them with markers and pens in order to send them as a sort of “Postcard” to their friends and family back home.   • Halawa Valley and Falls –

  • Molokai Mule Ride –
    Looking for more ways to experience nature and learn more about Hawaii? Why not consider a trip to the Kalaupapa National Historical Park?   • Purdy’s Natural Macadamia Nuts –
    As a real, working farm for Macadamia Nuts, the Purdy Farm has been entertaining guests since 1980. Visitors can learn more about the farm and literally kick back and chat with owners. They can relax and even learn how to crack open a Macadamia nut as well as sample some fresh from the shell.   • Kalaupapa Overlook –
    Located inside of the Kalaupapa National Historical Park lies one of the most beautiful views in all of Hawaii. Countless photos have been taken here and we doubt that will ever stop anytime soon. Consider pairing this with the Molokai Mule Tour activity and knocking them both out in the same day!
  • Surfing –
    It’s no secret that Hawaii is know for its affinity towards Surfing. If you are looking for a great surf shop to get started, consider visiting the Malama Surf Shop located in Kaunakakai, Hawaii.
  • Swimming –
    There are a number of awesome beaches through out all of the islands of Hawaii, after all, it is a chain of islands! Be sure to bring your bathing suit with you, or buy one when you get there, because whether you like laying on the beach or diving into the ocean, Hawaii has plenty of awesome places for it!

What to Pack

Definitely bring casual wear on your trip to Molokai! Scratch that nice blouse because there are really no “high-class” restaurants on the island. Everyone wears T-shirts, shorts and flip-flops because of the gorgeous weather! Make sure to bring sunscreen and sunglasses or even a hat to keep yourself protected from the rays. It’s great to bring a light sweater or jacket for at night,if you take a look at the average temperatures, it can drop in the 60s some nights.

Transport

You’ll have to rent a car to get around the island as public transportation is virtually non-existent. If you decide to do what the locals call, “island hopping,” you can always board a flight or take a ferry to any of the other islands to continue your Hawaiian adventure!
